One could claim this every year, but the upcoming sixth season of Game of Thrones (premiering April 24) has to be the most-anticipated one yet. Questions abound: Is Jon Snow really dead? Is Daenerys safe with the Dothraki? Will she forgive Jorah officially? What’s to become of Sansa and Theon? Is Arya really blind? While we await answers to these questions and more, new trailers slake our appetites, but how do we know we should really be excited for Season 6? What if it’s a let down? Well, if you listen to GoT showrunners, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, there’s nothing to worry about.
In a new interview with EW, Benioff and Weiss reveal they’ve recently watched the near-final cuts of all 10 new episodes and their collective review is in: “This is not us trying to hype it.” Benioff says. “Usually there’s an episode or two we’re kind of nervous about, that didn’t turn out as well as we hoped. This season there is not a weak episode…We’re always reluctant to say it’s ‘the best season yet’ because so much of that is in the eyes of the beholder. And Dan and I are so close to it that it’s impossible to be unbiased. But that’s my sense – watching them all together now, this is the best one we’ve done. It’s also the one I’m proudest of, because it was the hardest.”
As if we needed any more reason to be excited…
